The Town of Durham has been an agricultural community for over 200 years. The pastoral landscape is a critical component of the Town's unequaled natural and scenic resources. Farming is vital to maintaining both the community's heritage and local economic base. As stated in its comprehensive plan, the Town is committed to remaining a farming community and preserving its open spaces. The agriculture and open space plan will provide strategies to improve the economic viability of agriculture and preserve open space in the Town of Durham.
